Volkswagen has reached Settlements involving 2.0-liter Volkswagen and Audi diesel vehicles with the United States Environmental Protection Agency (“EPA”), the California Attorney General, the California Air Resources Board (“CARB”), the Federal Trade Commission, and current vehicle owners/lessees and certain former vehicle owners/lessees in the United States.

Emissions modifications are available for the following vehicles:
An Emissions Modification will not become available for model year 2012-2014 2.0-Liter TDI Passat vehicles with manual transmissions.
If you are an owner or lessee of a model year 2015 2.0-Liter TDI vehicle and have already received Stage One of the Approved Emissions Modification, Stage Two is now available and you may schedule an appointment at your preferred dealer to receive Stage Two of the modification. The deadline for completing the modification in order to receive a restitution payment was December 30, 2018, but you may still complete the modification at no charge to you.
Before approving an emissions modification, the EPA and CARB carefully evaluate the effects of the proposed modification on your vehicle’s emissions levels, reliability, durability, fuel economy, noise vibration and harshness, vehicle performance, drivability, and other qualities.
Even though an approved emissions modification is not available for your vehicle, you may still be able to register your vehicle with your state. As part of the settlements, every state, as well as the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico, has agreed that it will not deny registration based solely on the specific emissions issue covered by the settlement agreements.

Yes, all owners and lessees of included 2.0-liter TDI vehicles are eligible to have an emissions modification (if approved by the EPA and CARB) performed on their vehicle free of charge and will also receive an extended emissions warranty. For more information on what the modification involves, the impact (if any) that the modification will have on the vehicle and the terms of the extended emissions warranty, please read the FAQ under Emissions Modifications titled “What is included in the extended warranty for the Approved Emissions Modification, and how long does the warranty last?”
The EPA and CARB have approved an Emissions Modification for the following vehicles: (i) all model year 2015 vehicles (both Stage One and Stage Two), (ii) model year 2012-2014 2.0-Liter TDI Passat vehicles with automatic transmissions, (iii) model years 2013-2014 Volkswagen Beetle and Beetle Convertible 2.0-Liter TDI vehicles, (iv) model years 2010-2013 Volkswagen Golf 2-Door 2.0-Liter TDI vehicles, (v) model years 2010-2014 Volkswagen Golf 4-Door 2.0-Liter TDI vehicles, (vi) model years 2010-2014 Volkswagen Jetta and Jetta SportWagen 2.0-Liter TDI vehicles, and (vii) model years 2010-2013 Audi A3 2.0-Liter TDI vehicles. The “Approved Emissions Modification Extended Warranty” will apply to all vehicles that receive an Approved Emissions Modification, and will cover all replaced components that are part of the Approved Emissions Modification, any component that reasonably could be impacted by effects of the Approved Emissions Modification, and the engine subassembly. The Approved Emissions Modification Extended Warranty also provides for a loaner vehicle if emissions warranty service will last longer than 3 hours.
The Approved Emissions Modification Extended Warranty period for 2009-2014 model year vehicles will be the greater of:
(a) 4 years or 48,000 miles, whichever comes first, from date and mileage of implementing the Emissions Modification, except for vehicles offered for resale, in which case from the date and mileage of the first resale transaction after the modification to the first person who in good faith purchases the vehicle for purposes other than resale, or
(b) 10 years or 120,000 actual miles from the initial date of purchase (whichever comes first).
For 2015 model year vehicles, the warranty period will be the greater of:
(a) 11 years or 162,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle’s original in-service date; OR
(b) 5 years or 60,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the date and mileage of Phase 1 of the emissions modification. At the time of the subsequent Phase 2 modification, the extended warranty will be honored for 5 years or 60,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the date and mileage of the completion of Phase 2.
